2020 Exhibition ‘East meets West’ - POSTPONED

February Meeting

A busy meeting today working with our mentor Diane Bates on pieces for the upcoming exhibition at Burton Constable Hall.  There was a definite oriental feel in the room.

We were also pleased to hear from Louise Goult about a new venture which she is involved with; ‘Articentric’ is a community interest company in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Cleveland which works with and for artists providing workshop and gallery space for artists to sell their work.  Further information can be found on their Facebook page.

The York Open Studios 2020 brochure is now available and we are pleased that two of our members, Sarah Jackson and Linda Harvey, are exhibiting this year.  Along with Cathy Needham, Sarah and Linda also have some work currently on display as part of the York Textile Artists ‘Film and Fabric’ exhibition showing at City Screen, York until 16th March.

Welcome Our New Members

At our January meeting, we welcomed three new members to the Group.  Each will shortly have their own page but in the meantime, here is a brief introduction.

Linda Harvey

Linda Harvey studied Textiles and Surface Design at University Centre Somerset and is Head of Textiles at a York Secondary School.  Her work is inspired by rustic textures and the ageing process with colour and texture being key elements in her work. Working from photographs, Linda enjoys an expressive and experimental way of working.  She is also a member of York Textile Artists.

Louise Goult

Louise Goult has a City & Guilds in Textile Art and has worked with textiles and hand embroidery for many years.  Alongside her love for history which is beginning to influence her work, Louise enjoys creating conceptual work that is underpinned by research.

Christina Leigh-Howarth

Christina Leigh-Howarth has a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and likes to work with print and textiles.  She has been part of the Stitching Together Group at Catterick Garrison, a community funded project commissioned by the Army Welfare Service working with Rural Arts (Thirsk). Christina is currently in the second year of an experimental textile based course at the Lund Gallery.

December 2019 and January 2020 Meetings

The December meeting was our AGM and once again Sandra provided the Group with a delicious lunch.

In January, the meeting focused on our forthcoming exhibition at Burton Constable Hall which will take place from 27th April 2020 to 26th May 2020.  The title of the exhibition is 'East Meets West'.  Further details to follow shortly.
