I became a member of Diverse Threads after completing an HNC in Textiles.  I have a mathematical background which is apparent in my work which is often based on repeating pattens and abstract shapes. I have recently returned to college and I am now studying for a Degree in Applied Creative Design, specialising in Textiles.

Over the years, I have used hand embroidery, feltmaking, goldwork, printing and dyeing in my work. My main passion, however, is free machine embroidery.

The following images show some of the textile pieces I have created. If you would like  further details please visit my website - www.dianabarrettdesigns.co.uk

Erosion Series. This collection of vessels consider both the strength and fragility of man’s intervention in trying to prevent the erosion of the Yorkshire Coastline. The vessels are constructed from thread and enamelled copper wire and range in height from 60cm to 45cm

The Wolds In Winter. This piece worked on soluble fabric has allowed me to explore variations in textures and stitch density. It also shows a departure from the blocks of colour which feature in my earlier work. The work was inspired by the Yorkshire Wolds and measures 43cm x 33cm.

A Part From That. This piece was made for our Roman themed exhibition at 'Fashion and Embroidery' in October 2005. It measures 50cm x 50cm and is made up of four interlocking bands of individually stitched 'mosaic' squares. In total there are over 1200 squares. The edges are wired to give a three dimensional aspect to the piece.

Reflected Glory I. This piece was inspired by reflections of Baroque architecture in the windows of buildings in Prague. The work comprises nine separate free-machine embroidered panels which are then wired together to produce a three dimensional piece.
