Looking for a new area of creative expression I stumbled into City & Guilds, where I gained access to a  whole new world.  This led me to the Embroiderers' Guild, where I am completely involved. I have also taught embroidery in Adult Education.

I prefer hand stitching and enjoy making silk paper, felt, cords, drop spindle spinning and beadwork - creating a surface or texture in which I can stitch.

In my initial work with the group I was using silk paper and acetate using, as my source, the natural world.

For my work on a Roman theme I took a picture of the Pantheon and manipulated the image, printed it on fabric and then stitched into it using metal threads, leather and wrapped bars, cutting out certain areas to reveal a second layer.

Continuing with the Roman theme, I experimented with my new felt embellisher to create a series of arches. i enjoy "painting" with the fibres to create just the tone or depth that I want. I have since worked several pieces using the embellisher, some in a representational way, and others developing a source picture in a much more experimental way.

I have been working with a series of pictures of a passion flower using metal threads and these metal threads continue to be a dominant method of embellishing my work.

Working to a theme of "Elements" my pieces were linked to water, both as the sea and as raindrops. I used silver kid, beads and metal threads.

This work creates small intensely stitched pieces taken from spectral imaging photography, taken from miles above the surface of the earth. Vegetation shows up as red colouring, so I have intensified that colouring and reduced the remaining colour saturation levels.
